6/23/05 Some thoughts on going back to work
We've lived in Arkansas now for almost two years, and I haven't worked outside the home for two full years. So, what on earth prompts me to return to work now?
I like not working. I like being in my jammies at 9:00 in the morning, drinking coffee and settling in to watch my quilting shows. I like having time to myself and not having a schedule. So, why go back towork then?
Do I HAVE to work? No, probably not. I mean, we're not going to starve to death if I don't go back to work. We have enough money with Chip's pension and social security to live on and pay the bills. But, there is precious little left over, and there is this credit card debt that gnaws at me. So, hi ho, hi ho, its off to work I go. I hope to have the credit cards paid off in a year.
But, there's more to it than that. I do miss working, in some bizarre way. I miss the people contact; I miss learning new things and meeting new people. And heaven knows, I miss the money!
So, starting July 14th, I'll be headed back to work. I had two opportunities - (both at Arvest bank) - one working in Fayetteville, starting out in the teller pool, but probably moving up into the management trainee program fairly soon. The other Arvest job I interviewed for in Huntsville I didn't get, as Financial Services Representative. They also had a teller's position coming up, but I knew the next-door neighbor's daughter wanted that, so I took myself out of the running. So, after I get back from Vegas, I'll be going back to work.
I'll be busy, that's for sure. I'm just now finishing up the eight quilts I'm making for the baby deer at Witter Wildlife Rescue. I have a commission for another baby quilt for a friend, and a wedding quilt for another, and I've agreed to make a quilt for an auction for PVS (Prisoner Visitation and Support) in October. I still need to set up my new computer, but that may have to wait until I get back from Las Vegas.
Working....certainly not a thing wrong with it! Would I rather sit around the house and watch tv and eat bonbons? Sure, who wouldn't? But working has a certain appeal too. And this is the door the good Lord has opened, so that's the one I'll walk through. I have no idea how I can possibly help further God's kingdom working in a bank, but I suppose His presence needs to be there too.
So, its off to work I go, yet again. Wish me luck!
Blessings, Phoenix
